ENERVA™

PTO Remote Throttle Controller

Precision throttle management for PTO applications, speed limiting, and RPM control.

THE PRODUCT

Throttle management, built on EVNet™ ARMIO

The ENERVA™ PTO Remote Throttle Controller manages the throttle signal to deliver precise RPM and speed control for PTO-equipped commercial vehicles. It monitors vehicle state via J1939 CAN bus, reads the driver’s pedal input, and manages engine output across multiple operating modes.

Built on the EVNet™ ARMIO board, it restores PTO throttle control, preset RPM targets, and road speed limiting — functions that truck OEMs have progressively removed from their base vehicles as they consolidate model ranges.

The system supports CAN, PWM, and analogue inputs and outputs, making it adaptable to virtually any heavy vehicle. Custom software features and application-specific logic are available for operators with requirements beyond the standard configuration.

Autokraft Electrical and Diesel is the authorised NZ installation partner for the ENERVA™ PTO Remote Throttle Controller. We handle vehicle assessment, system configuration, and ongoing service.

THE PROBLEM

OEMs are removing the features you need

Truck manufacturers are consolidating their model ranges. Where they once offered multiple specialist chassis variants with dedicated PTO configurations, they now offer fewer models configured through software. The economics work for the OEM — the cost is borne by operators who lose access to features they previously relied on.

PTO throttle control, cruise-set RPM targets, and configurable speed limiting are among the first to go. For operators running chip spreaders, bitumen sprayers, concrete pumps, and other PTO-driven equipment, that’s not a minor inconvenience — it’s a workflow problem.

The ENERVA™ PTO Remote Throttle Controller puts that functionality back.

KEY FEATURES

What the controller does

Transparent pass-through

By default, the controller passes the pedal signal straight through to the engine controller with zero interference. The driver notices nothing. The system only intervenes when a control mode is explicitly activated.

PTO control with interlocks

Engage PTO mode to hold a target RPM for body equipment operation. Interlocks ensure PTO cannot engage while the vehicle is in motion, and the system disengages automatically if safety conditions are violated.

Preset RPM targets

Configure up to four RPM presets selectable via switch inputs. Operators can switch between target speeds for different PTO operations without adjusting a throttle lever or dial. Select the preset and the controller holds the RPM.

Road speed limiting

Set a maximum road speed that the controller enforces by capping the throttle signal. Essential for vehicles operating in restricted zones, on worksites, or when carrying loads that require reduced speed.

Multi-input flexibility

Supports CAN bus (J1939), PWM, analogue voltage, and discrete switch inputs. The same controller adapts to different vehicle platforms and operator interface requirements without hardware changes.

Hazard light automation

Automatically activates hazard lights when PTO mode is engaged or speed limiting is active. Configurable behaviour ensures the vehicle is visible to other road users during stationary or slow-speed operations.

HOW IT WORKS

Four control modules

The controller reads engine RPM, vehicle speed, and gear state from the J1939 CAN bus, giving it full awareness of the vehicle’s operating condition. Four control modes are selectable via switch inputs:

  1. Pass-through – pedal signal passes to the engine untouched. Default state.
  2. RPM control – the controller holds a target RPM for stationary PTO operations.
  3. Speed limiting – enforces a maximum road speed. The driver retains full control below the limit.
  4. Both active – RPM control and speed limiting operate simultaneously. Used for mobile PTO applications like chip spreading.

Safety fallbacks are built in: if CAN bus data is lost, the controller reverts to pass-through. If the pedal signal is outside expected range, the system flags a fault and disengages. The driver can always override by pressing the brake.

APPLICATIONS

Built for PTO-equipped commercial vehicles

Chip spreaders

Road maintenance vehicles requiring simultaneous speed limiting and RPM control. The controller enforces a maximum travel speed while holding engine RPM at the target required by the spreader mechanism.

Bitumen sprayers

Similar to chip spreaders: the pump requires a consistent RPM while the vehicle travels at a controlled speed. Preset RPM targets let the operator switch between application rates without manual throttle adjustment.

General PTO equipment

Any vehicle with engine-driven PTO equipment that needs throttle control removed from the OEM specification. Concrete pumps, vacuum tankers, crane trucks, and other applications where the operator needs to set and hold an RPM target.

Technical Documentation

Full specifications, pinout tables, CAN bus PGN references, configurable parameters, and installation notes are available in the ECVS product documentation — designed for integrators and installers working with the EVNet™ ARMIO board.
