The Max-Safe Reverse Watch System includes advanced reversing sensors for large and commercial vehicles, that monitor the blind spot behind a vehicle for obstacles or people. It sees what drivers can’t and is eminently more accurate than scanning rear or side mirrors or sticking one’s head out the window.
Reversing sensors are the safety technology every large vehicle driver needs. Reversing a commercial vehicle can be challenging, given the large size, unfamiliar locations, tight spaces, and/or any darkness or problematic weather conditions. Drivers rely on their mirrors to judge distances and identify obstacles, but their line-of-sight is often obscured, creating a blind spot behind their vehicle. They simply cannot see what the mirrors can’t show them.
Poor visibility and miscalculating are large contributing factors to collisions that occur while reversing according to an Auto & General 2020 Report on Australian Vehicle Accident statistics.
Furthermore, the space behind a vehicle is rarely a static zone. Other vehicles, objects and people can quickly appear in blind spots, and drivers can’t rely on people to get out of the way. They might be distracted on their mobiles, have a disability, or be impaired in their judgement.
These dynamics create an unsafe environment where property and equipment can be damaged, or worse, personal injury or even death can occur to site workers, pedestrians, or cyclists.
The MAX-SAFE Reverse Watch system is a sophisticated reversing sensor system add-on that works with and engages the MAX-SAFE active braking system and audible alarm to prevent unsafe situations. Together, they help reduce the incidence of downtime, insurance claims, and personal injury, as they don’t rely on the ability of the driver to detect a hazard or pedestrian. The system is designed to comply with Australian Design Rules (National Standards for Vehicle Safety).
Our MAX-SAFE Reverse Watch can be incorporated into new fleet builds or retro-fitted to individual vehicles. These reversing sensors are suitable for trucks and a wide range of vehicles used in road construction, mining, waste management and other industries.
REVERSING SENSORS LIKE THE MAX-SAFE REVERSE WATCH® SYSTEM HELP TO SAVE LIVES
The reversing sensor is a radar unit mounted on the rear of the vehicle with a Danger Zone programmed to scan the desired range. It can detect obstacles and people over a 50m2 area behind a vehicle. The solution has a super fast scanning and detection capability that can calculate the speed of approaching objects which can trigger braking before being in the “red danger zone”.
The Reverse Watch system becomes active when the vehicle is placed into reverse, engaging the radar to actively monitor the Danger Zone for obstacles. If something is detected, the system is triggered causing the following to occur:
- The vehicle is stopped by automatic, active braking technology (when MAX-SAFE Brake System module is installed);
- An alert is displayed on the driver’s dashboard;
- And an audible alarms are sounded from the radar display.
The system also has a push button override switch, used to release the brakes after the system has triggered. An illuminated ring around the push button shows the state of the Reverse Watch system – GREEN when the system is active and RED when the system has triggered.
In this way, the MAX-SAFE Reverse Watch System takes pre-emptive actions ahead of a driver responding. This ensures faster and more pro-active safety prevention.
